M7 Blog Post 6 - Integrating Gaming and Simulations Into My Classroom

Quizizz
Quizizz is a free, online learning website. This website is a lot like Kahoot or Blooket because it has students answer questions based on a topic that a teacher assigns. Teachers can create their own quizizz based on a topic or they can search for a pre-made quizizz. There are numerous quizizz that are already created that align with varying topics.
Quizizz just added a feature that allows you to upload a topic, standard, or document and it will generate a review quiz using AI. This feature is great to use when you are making a Quizizz to review for a test or review a certain standard students may need more practice with.
What students see:

Students will be given a question to answer. There are over 15 ways to format questions for variety and to best fit the question being asked.
As students answer questions correctly, they earn points. With their points they can earn power ups to help them gain more points. This helps keep students engaged in answering questions correctly and makes the game more fun!

This is what the display looks like for mastery:

My favorite way to use Quizizz is to have students practice math facts, multiplication and division especially.
I teach 3rd grade, my students are learning multiplication and division for the first time. This is a fun and
engaging way to get my students excited about learning their facts. I also have used Quizizz for science and
social studies test review. I like to use Quizizz for these review games because I am able to add accommodations
for students that need it. I teach in an integrated classroom so I have both general education students and
special education students combined. Quizizz allows me to add in testing accommodations, such as, text read,
extra time, less answers, etc. This is a great feature to use so that all students have an opportunity for success.
This would not take too long to implement into a classroom routine. The first time students may need help
getting to the correct web page and typing in the access code. Students will also need to be told to not create
a nickname but to use just their first name when logging into a game. I have found that students are able to
figure out the game portion of this website without me having to teach them explicitly. It is a very straight
forward website for students of all ages to be successful in using. Other ways I have differentiated besides
using the accommodations are, having students that need more help sit one-on-one with a teacher to help them
answer the questions, created a different set of questions that are at the child's level, had students team up in
heterogeneous groups one computer to answer the questions.
Quizizz is great at providing clear and concise data at the end of a quiz. This data can be shown in a number of ways.
The first way is question by question. This shows how many students got a certain question correct/wrong along with the names of the students. It tells the teacher the accuracy of the question. It also will give the average time spent on a particular questions
Another way it displays data is it shows the students accuracy individually. This is a great feature because it shows what students need more assistance with certain topics. I use this to help determine if I need to pull a small group to reteach some of the topics with students before an assessment. This assessment of skills could be both formative or summative. I have used Quizizz as an exit ticket or a quick check of my students understanding. I have also used Quizizz as a summative grade in my class on topics such as multiplication by 0, 1, 2, 5, and 10.
Quizizz is an excellent resource to integrate into your classroom. It is easy to use for both the teacher and students. All of the features I have discussed are available through the free version of this website! I highly recommend trying our Quizizz in your classroom as a review game before a test.
Quizizz looks like a fun platform. The fact that it has a free version makes it a great resource for teachers. I really like the visuals you included in your blog post. It’s pretty surreal how so many platforms have already incorporated AI into their design, Quizizz being one of them. I feel like using platforms like this makes reviewing materials a lot more engaging and rewarding for students. I also think that it’s a good way to prepare students for tests. I have experience using Kahoot!, but I’m definitely going to try Quizizz and compare. Thanks for the recommendation!
